Today we’ll take a look at Day 2 of Culture Japan Convention, loaded with tons of awesome cosplays – if you missed out Day 1 then take a look at some of my photos taken at day 1 here.
In day 2 there’s a workshop by Ikkyuu to show all comrades how to draw artworks like him, a Maridah panel where she would answer questions from fans, an autograph signing session, cosplay competition and closing performance by Vividblaze.
In day 2 I had to meet up with somebody in other parts of Penang, so by the time I arrived at the convention it was already past noon. Therefore I’ve missed Ikkyuu-sensei workshop session and Maridah’s panel ^^;
Nevertheless, I was able to make it to the autography/signing session, where I found a certain superhero waiting in line as well.
There was a LONG queue for the signing session, but I managed to get some of the guests to sign some of the merchandises. After this there is the cosplay competition, but it took some time for the organizers to setup everything so I wandered around the venue to take some photos before the competition starts.
The Doll/Figure display area on day 2.
Some kits from Macross series on display here. Not really familiar with the Macross series but I did enjoy watching Macross Frontier.
Kamen Rider figrues! I remember when I was kid I used to watch Kamen Rider Black RX on VHS Tapes with Cantonese dub. Couldn’t understand Cantonese very well at that time but still thinks Kamen Rider Black RX is cool with all the monster-killing action scenes ><
This Metal Gear REX model from Metal Gear Solid caught my eye – very nice work! I remember playing Metal Gear Solid on my PC about 12 years ago. In the end, I replayed the game on every difficulty and unlocked the tuxedo suit for Solid Snake ^^;
The wrist band for Day 2 – forgot to take photo of the orange wrist band for day 1.
A bunch of Gundam badges for sale – got 1 for RM 5 ^^ Can you guess which one did I bought?
Cute cosplayers selling their artworks and Shingeki no Kyojin keychains.
And here are some photos of the cosplay competition – note that the pictures are blurry as I was standing far far away from the stage – there was too many people ><
Shirae – a famous Crossplayer. Yup, that’s a guy dressing up as a female ^^;
No Miku Hatsune cosplays are ever absent from a cosplay competition.
Some girls cosplaying as Mikasa and Sasha The Potato girl from Shingeki no Kyojin.
Someone got eaten by a monster.
While waiting for the cosplay judges to come up with the results, comrades are free to take photos with these awesome cosplayers.
I wonder how heavy that monster head cosplay is…
This is a trap! ^o^/
Crossplayer meets real girls ^^;
I think this is the only Gundam cosplay found at Culture Japan Convention. Forgot to ask for his name card ^^;
Then it’s time for prizing-giving to the photographers who took beautiful photos of cosplayers.
Danny also mentioned that this camera guy is also working for him on the filming of Culture Japan Season 3 – which is scheduled to be broadcast in April next year.
This artwork won the 3rd place for the Art competition – the voting was done by both fans and Judges.
The 2nd place goes to this artwork – which raises a lot of questions from some fans as it was not even colored ^^;
The champion of the Art competition.
Then they proceed with the prize-giving ceremony for the cosplay competition. The crossplayer won the best dressing award!
Asakawa Yuu thinks the cosplaying guy is hot and Danny started to unbutton his shirts, it was a hilarious moment ><
Here’s a closer-up photo from Soujirou Marui (posted on Danny Choo’s facebook fanpage):
The champion of the cosplay competition gets a ticket to Japan.
Then all cosplayers prepares for a group photo.
Apprently Danny found a use for that hammer – to put the Mirai-chan doll on it.
Final closing performance by Vividblaze – I always liked their songs and it was great to be able to see them performing live.
Found Danny standing at the corner of the stage while VividBlaze was performing ^^
At the closing speech, Danny has announced that there will be a Culture Japan Convention 2! This was made possible all thanks to the great response and support from all comrades.
A Zombie outbreak happens when Danny was about to give away the limited Toucn N Go cards ^^;
At one point Danny ran off the stage with the Touch N Go cards then everybody started to chase after him. I actually saw someone knocking off Danny’s glasses and eye-mic in the process. Those people are really desperate to get those cards O_o
At the end, Danny has announced that there will be a Culture Japan Convention 2, thanks to all the support from fans!
Danny decided to use himself as bait to lure fans to outside of the event hall while the staffs had to clean up the hall after the event ends.
Taking last photo of Danny before I headed off to Gurney Paragon Mall to meetup with someone.
Had a Charcoal Cheese Beef burger meal at Gurney Paragon Mall. Om nom nom nom…
Back at my hotel room and here’s some of the stuffs that I grabbed from the convention.
Some Mirai illustrations by various sensei that came with the copy of Mirai Music CD.
This is the comrade pass with the lanyard – Danny has mentioned that they are planning to to roll out a worldwide Culture Japan Membership System so if you show them this pass at their next coming events you’ll get some free goodies ^^
While I have no problem with reading kanji, I had very little knowledge on reading/writing on kana. So I decided to get myself a pack of moekana to start learning kana.
Love the illustrations on some of the cards!
Managed to get one of the cards to be signed by it’s Illustrator Ikkyuu-sensei
All purchases at the Culture Japan booth came with this glossy Mirai bag.
Also grabbed a Mirai Millennium retro T-shirt, looks cute! I can tell that Danny really loves retro-looking games.
I was exchanging a few emails with Danny yesterday and we were talking about mobile apps. I told him that I am currently developing my own 2D space shooter game for iOS/Android then he immediately asked if it was a game with a retro pixel feel ^^;
Finally, just wanna say thanks to CJC organizing team (Danny, his team and Penang Global Tourism) for organizing such a wonderful convention and it was really nice to meet some of my readers at CJC! I hope I’ll be able to meet some of you again at this year’s Anime Festival Asia and Comic Fiesta! Thank you all and take care! :)
