Managed to spent a day in Akihabara during my recent trip to Japan and this photo post covers the stores which I visited in Akihabara.
In Akihabara you’ll find lots of anime, manga, figures, gundam, dolls, hentai, eroge, “health products” and much more. It is truly the heart of otaku culture and I find myself having a great time visiting the stores there ^^
^To get to Akihabara, drop off at JR Akihabara station and head towards the Electronic Town exit.
View Akihabara Station in a larger map
^This is what you should see after exiting the Akihabara station through the Electronic Town exit.
^If you’re looking for the Gundam Cafe & AKB48 cafe, then you should take the opposite exit from the station.
^Yodobashi Camera is also around the corner of Akihabara station. If you’re not bothered with walking around Akihabara then you can do a lot of shopping here – they got pretty much everything from anime, manga, figures, gundam, games, electronics and more.
^Folks selling bags, belts and wallets for 1000 Yen only.
^Blood donation anyone? This blood donation facility is the coolest one I ever seen.
^Even cats like visiting Akihbara too. Sometime, you can find some of them siting on sign boards.
^There are lots of shops to explore on both sides of Chuo Doori (the main road that runs through Akihabara).
^The Volks Hobby Tengoku store – located at Electronic Town Exit. Just turn right after the ticket barrier to get there.
^Volk’s Hobby Tengoku in Akihabara has 3 floors – 1st floor contains anime/otaku products, 2nd floor has figures/plastic models and 3rd floor with dolls products.
^Continue walking down the main road of Akihabara.
^Lammtarra is a shop where you can find “health” DVD’s and games. Its disguised as an anime/games/AKB48 DVD store on the outside ^^;
^The Taito Game station has a load of UFO Catcher stuffs.
^Animate have a ton of anime merchandise and figures.
^ Super Potato – a shop that sells retro games. The shop is located at the main road – they do have a larger shop located at the back alley of Akihabara.
^Found my first video game machine! The first ever video game that I played on this is Sonic the Hedgehog ^^
^Also played a lot of Tactics Ogre back in the days of SNES – voted as one of the “Top 20 games voted by readers” by Weekly Famitsu for 14 years running! Am glad to hear when they decided to remake the game for PSP ^^
^In Akihabara you get to see folks selling lots of second hand electronics goodies out in the open.
^There are lots of Softmap stores in Akihabara – load of electronics goods can be found here.
^K-books – for all the reading materials and some merchandises.
^Picked up a Dengeki hobby magazine in K-books. Nu Gundam looks awesome as always.
^Something for zeta gundam fans. I assume that helmet would be durable enough for use at least a hundred years.
^Final Fantasy X HD Remaster and God Eater 3’s Limited edition PS Vita. Got a copy of FFX HD for my PS Vita recently & I remember that I never completed the game on my PS2 ^^;
^Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds game ads at Traders. Got a copy for my PS Vita, gotta love this retro side-scrolling beat’em up game.
^Melonbooks – they sell mostly manga, comic, light novels but also have some DVDs, anime merchandise and figures in the corner.
^Only in Akihabara you’ll see elevator doors plastered with clothless 2D girls ^^;
^After exploring the stores along the main road of Akihabara, it’s time to wander around the back alley. Here you’ll find lots of smaller stores with hidden gems.
^The sign of this store says they buy & sell second-hand DVD and books, but when I stepped into the store I could only find “health” dvd and magazines ^^;
^Only in Akihabara you’ll find stores with floors like these. Be careful of where you step on ^^;
^Also visited the main Super Potato store in the back alley of Akihabara, it’s located on the 3rd floor of a building so be sure to look up at the signboards.
^Inside Super Potato where I found lots of nostalgic video games which I used to play with.
^Japanese arcades are awesome!
^A game that I’m currently playing – got it for the PS Vita but not the PS3 version.
^The Famicom or Nintendo Entertainment System up for sale in Super Potato.
^Tons of PC parts and accessories can be found at Tsukumo.
^Previously owned manga – 1 for 10 yen and 50 for 350 yen only!
^In Japan, even restaurants get their own a mascot characters.
^Kotobukiya – they sell lots of figures and some merchandises.
^You’ll find a lot of these DVD rental shops in Akihabara. Here you can rent and watch all kinds of DVD in a small private room- the staffs will hand you a bucket, some tissue and condom ^^;
^Store that sells all the health products for men ^^;
^Heading to Gundam cafe for dinner.
^Char’s Zaku rice for dinner – I supposed it’s 3 times more spicy than your average fried rice? Nom nom nom.
^Heading back to hotel after spending a great day in Akihabara.
Will try to post up more photos of my trip to other parts of Tokyo in the next few days. Speaking of that, I do have a feeling that I’m getting less time for blogging recently ^^; I find myself having a hard time on keeping up-to-date with all the latest news on gundam, anime, manga and a lot of things which I used to spend a lot of time on.
Much of my time is now spent on working for a few game development projects/collaborations and yes – my mascot Yuuna-chan will be appearing in some of those games! ^^ Will try to reveal more details soon.
Meanwhile, you can check out my previous photo post of my Tokyo trip:
